Some updates:
  • The work is completed in the hallway by the bathrooms.
  • Check out our new website - www.tinkwg.org. It is still under construction but we are well underway to have a very usable and informative website. Tink Wig is lucky to have a team of volunteers who are working for the community on this task.
  • Welcome to Debra White, our new office manager. She came experienced to us as she once worked at Fawn Lake.
  • Over the winter, we spent $27,170.00 out of our $45,000 budget for snow removal.
  • The pool reconstruction is underway and the opening should be on time for the 3rd week in June when our pool attendants finish school.
  • Funding for the Bridge and Bathrooms has been approved by the Property Owners.
  • We are still waiting for the grant awards to be announced for the bridge. The awards have been delayed till the end of May.

Current Activities and Notices

Safety Alert - Our community is one of the safest in Pike County and we would like it to stay that way. Please be sure to lock the doors to your house and your cars. Even if you are enjoying the nice weather in the yard, it is a good habit to keep your doors that are outside your line of sight locked. Also, be a good neighbor and if you see anything suspicious call the authorities. There have been reports in the area of vandalism and theft. Unfortunately, this generally increases during warm weather. We want everyone to stay safe and enjoy living here at Tink Wig.

Donations Requested - We are now accepting donations for our annual basket raffle to be held at our Annual Picnic on July 2, 2022. If you have any new items to donate, please drop them off at the office during office hours, Tuesday thru Saturday 9 am to 1 pm. If you are unable to make these hours, please contact us using the link below and we can make an appointment for the delivery. All proceeds from this raffle will go into our Social Committee account for refurbishing the kitchen area in the clubhouse. --- The Social Committee of TWPOA

Volunteering in our Community

Tink Wig Mountain Lake Estates has a long history of “mandatory volunteerism.” We can credit Tink Wig’s all-volunteer Board of Directors and all-volunteer Committees with successfully maintaining our community as the jewel that it is. Replace “mandatory volunteerism” with “optional volunteerism” and our community is left with extravagant mandatory fees to pay for outsiders to oversee our community and its amenities.

Collectively, our personal backgrounds and experiences are all over the map. Those things that unite us all are a desire for safety, recreation, privacy, expense controls and the expectation of enforcement of our By-Laws, rules and regulations. Without exception, all of the above exist by way of our community member volunteers…all at a cost below $700 per annum.

Every household has the ability to have a positive impact on the affairs of the TWPOA. Our gracious committee chairpersons will appreciate the help even if all you can offer is what amounts to 1 hour per season taking pics with your cell phone.

Let’s learn about two Tink Wig committees that are in serious need of shoring up that only can be accomplished with the help of volunteers willing to step forward:

ROAD COMMITTEE

The Roads Committee is not manned at all. A volunteer chairperson needs to report to the Tink Wig Board of Directors, any present and potential road hazards. He or she would also make recommendations for obvious maintenance issues they observed or are reported by our community members through the Tink Wig website. The committee would also clear minor obstructions and may put up signs as needed.

Civil engineering experience is not required. The members that want to be part of this committee would be able to accomplish safety checks on their own schedule.

Our bridge replacement project is NOT a road committee responsibility.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE & CHILDREN’S SOCIAL COMMITTEE

Thanks to our Children’s Social Committee many of our younger members have gotten to know each other through fun activities such as:
  • Valentine’s-make your own chocolate treats
  • Annual Easter Egg Hunt
  • Tie-Dye Party
  • Annual Trunk or Treat
  • Initial planning for a Christmas/Holiday craft party is in the works as we speak.
  • Contact the Children's Social Committee and share your own ideas or even volunteer to introduce a new culture to the younger set.
The members involved take care of the shopping, planning, set-up, support for event helpers, break down and listing donations for materials and supplies. Most of the planning is accomplished virtually and by email with as much or as little involvement as a volunteer is comfortable making. Our Board of Directors supports the Children’s Social Committee as much as possible but the boots on the ground tasks need the member volunteers.

Tink Wig’s Social Committee is geared to family and adult events. As you might imagine, volunteers are always needed for planning, setup, clean-up, cooking, selling tickets for raffles, and general help during the events. This committee needs a jump start after Covid-19 stalled all activities and needs volunteers to make it happen.

The call has gone out for people to volunteer on the front line for an Italian Night scheduled on May 28. Immediate needs are to help cook, set up, clean-up and donations of unspecified items. Please contact the Social Committee if you can plug yourself in. I see opportunity here for our younger people to get some life experience and something to add to their undeveloped resumes. The Social Committee will appreciate any help they can get, even if it is for just one time.

Often times these events double as fund raisers as well. The updating and renovations of the clubhouse kitchen has been fully funded by Social Committee events. Contact Karen or Martha via our website committee listings to volunteer and invest in the Tink Wig community!

Past entertaining soirees include:
  • Annual Picnic
  • Wine/Cheese Party
  • Hawaiian Luau
  • Octoberfest
  • Souper Supper
  • Santa Run
  • Basket Raffles
  • St. Patrick’s Party
Volunteering on any committee is a labor of love. Let’s not risk burning out our community’s Chairpersons and their desire to continue. Contact the Social Committee for more information or if you are interested in volunteering.

Lake at Tink Wig

Tink Wig Lake is a precious little jewel in the Poconos situated in the middle of the community opposite the clubhouse and pool. It was made by flooding 3 separate ponds, resulting in an impoundment of approximately 110 acres. Water depth ranges from 2 inches to a little over 10 feet. As a result of this flooding, there are several islands and structures consisting of stumps and sunken trees that were left when they first made the lake.

All this structure is ideal for providing cover for the fish and wildlife. The islands are an attraction for turtles, beavers, muskrats, snakes, migrating birds, eagles, ducks, geese and otters as well as other wildlife.

Fishing can be quite good depending on the skill of the person fishing. Fish consist mainly of large mouth bass, pickerel, perch, crappie, bluegills, sunfish and catfish. Catch and release is encouraged except for bluegills and sunfish.
Boating is also popular and encouraged. No gas-powered motors are allowed; only electric motors, paddles and oars. A launching ramp is available as are racks for small boats, kayaks and canoes. See governing documents for specifics. All state and federal laws apply for fishing and boating.
The community hires Aqua Link to manage the lake. They monitor water quality and apply chemicals for aquatic weed control. In 2020, Tink Wig was awarded the 2020 Lake Management Award by the Pennsylvania Lake Management Society in recognition of valuable contributions to the science of Pennsylvania lake and watershed management. Our lake is a valuable asset to the community and should be appreciated and enjoyed by its members.

Past Children's Social Events

Santa Run
Santa Run - December 2021

Once again, the neighborhood volunteer fire and ambulance companies delighted the children with their annual parade of decorated firetrucks, floats, and of course Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Goodie Bags were donated by the Mustafa family and the Roberts and Stephens families provided a chance to win a children’s and adult’s door prize.

The Children’s Social committee was happy to host a few winter and spring events, even though Mother Nature threw us a few curve balls with snow storms and rain.
Valentines
Valentine’s Day - February 2022

The Children’s Social Committee hosted a Make Your Own Valentine’s Day Treats event on February 6th. The kids had a chance to dip and decorate an assortment of pretzels, cookies, brownies, strawberries, and other snacks in their favorite chocolate to make yummy treats. Most were eaten and a few pieces may have made it home to share.
Easter 2022
Easter Egg Hunt - April 2022

Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt was held on April 10th. The cold weather and scattered snow showers couldn’t keep these kids from racing around and hunting for over 500 eggs hidden in the playground and by the clubhouse! Everyone enjoyed collecting chocolate and finding the special prize eggs.

I’d like to give a big THANK YOU to my core team of volunteers who help make these events possible and for the support from the board. If you’re interested in joining the committee or have ideas for events, we’d love to hear from you.
